Tomorrow I'm picking up a 26" 3 toed amphiuma but I'm having trouble getting the temp down, currently it's sitting a 72 degrees, is this too warm long term? The amphiuma I'm getting has been kept in tropical temps for the past 8 months if that makes any difference.

amphiumas are from warm waters. I have found them in ponds reaching 85º. I think you are fine.

I was under the impression they preferred cooler temps, maybe I'm mixing their temps up with something else.

most other amphibians like it cool. Sirens and Axlotls prefer temps under 70 but not amphiumas.
