I was wondering if this would be overkill, I planning to get a lurker puffer fish either a arrowhead, congo , or a palembang. Would a marineland canister filter rated at 360 gallon an hour be too much for a 30 gallon tank with a single puffer?

its more then you need, but i dont think its too much.

the term too much doesnt apply to filtration atleast in freshwater

not at all.

i have 2 filters on my 56 gallon rated for 500GPH each! and that's nothing compared to what some other people have.

As long as you dont have too much current for your fish, you cant have too much filtration. thats the way i see it atleast, :)

So u think 1 aquaclear 500 and a fluval 405 for a 180g is underfiltration? i really need help on my tank, thanks.

Depends on what your tank is stocked with.

there is no overfiltration , the only stopping that is your budget ( and afcourse your fich must have a spot to rest . if the current is not to much ok , if it is its easely fixed . so again overfilter until you can drink from your tank ;)

my 55 gall
penguin 350 350gph
cascade 300 300gph
cascade 1000 265gph
power head 260 wih sponge 260gph
total 1175gph

with 12 malawi cichldis ;)
