Bought one of the 10' X 30" Inex Pools from target. Just set it up in the basement. I just turned the water hose on to fill her up :)

Pics to come soon..

The pond is going to have 2 rtc, 1 TSN, 1 S Planiceps, 3 oscars, a large severum, and eventually several cichla ocellaris, monoculus, orinos and temensis. Im growing them out right now in other tanks... Just want to make sure that when they hit the pond, they are large enough to not be food for the cats....

With active fish species like those, I recommend you create a slow circular water flow with one or two directed powerheads. They will appreciate the water current since it will bring food to them and it will accumulate debris and detritus into the center for easier removal.

Just wanted to give an update.. I have the pond staying heated at 81 degrees in my basement which the air temp is 65 degrees. Im doing this through 3 - Hydor 300watt heaters and a Stealth 250 watt totalling 1150 watts. I have two of the heaters on one side of the pond and two on the other.

I didnt use the filter that came with the pond because it looked like junk. Right now Im using a custom made from a 5 gallon bucket with already cycled lava rock from another tank. Im going to eventually have four of these.

Let me elaborate on the setup. I have a 1100 gph pump setting in the pond and pumping water into an inlet at the bottom of the bucket. The water rises through the lava rock and through the outlet at the top of the bucket and back into the pond. This is just to get good bacteria going in the pond for now since I already have this lava rock cycled.

I put some fake floating plants in it to provide some cover as well as some round rocks in piles scattered throughout the pond. Here is a question I have though. What type of plants is there that would flourish in a pond with low lighting. I just have a regular flourescent light fixture from walmart with two regular bulbs in it.. I need something to help take care of nitrates as much as possible..

I think thats all for now. Havent gotten a pic yet but will get one as soon as possible...

affordable set up

i hope you have some way to keep down the humidity a cover or something. i have seen and herd of lg ponds with no covers and it felt like a Sonia and heard of cases that the humidity created damage to the house.
