Well I asked about the brandtii piranha a few days ago and you guys told me they are a great fish and to snatch it up for the price. Well I got him! He is really nice looking with alot of red fins and gold body. He has a 29 all to himself and he is about 2"-3". I will get some pics up later. I am letting him chill for now. The guy at my LFS said he was eating krill mainly and also even pellets and flakes! Hope he lives up to what you guys said about them. I have hated P's for a long time now and this is an adventure for me. Oh yea....I got him for FREE!!!!:D Originally $24.99.

Excellent, a gorgeous looking brandtii and an even more gorgeous looking price! However I suggest you give him time to settle in to avoid disappointment. Piranhas take longer than other fish to settle in and show their ‘true selves’. Looks and sounds like you got a good one there though! Keep the updates coming.

It definitely isn't a brandtii. Im gona agree with the guys in the other thread saying its a denticulata.

Here are some pics of my old brandtii for comparison...

Hmm okay now i have paid some more attention i need to embarrass myself for the second time today on identification. That is not a brandtii to my knowledge. The head is not concave enough and the fins are normally transparent... though I can’t say for sure what it actually is, I would say (99%) it is not brandtii…

Well that really sucks...:( Well does anybody have any info on the speices that you think it is. I cannot find hardly any info on the dentic that they mentioned in the other thread...Are they good fish to keep? Are they anything like the serras? I don't want a fish like a RBP I want something like a big brute rhom or brandtii. Any info would be nice. Thanks guys.

Chad

I've never kept them myself, but they seem to be pretty cool fish in their own right. It definitely isn't going to be a "big brute" like a serra. though. Apparently they're omnivores in the wild and it's good to feed em fruit every once in awhile
