I’m setting up a 30in deep 210. Getting the 48in python to clean the sand - but somehow can’t find extra long nets. Also need an extra long scraper. I use a magnet scraper for the glass but need a razor blade scraper for the sand line.

What do you use for netting and other maintenance tricks?

I would use a magnetic algae scraper and strap a 1 Inch pvc pipe cut to length you want to the net. Use plastic zip ties to secure pipe to the net. If your fish are large you could probably use a fishing net from a bait shop.

For algae I use a heavy-duty scraper sold in paint stores; it has a fixed blade about 4 inches long, perpendicular to the handle. Bolt the handle solidly to a length of steel EMT electrical conduit to extend the length. You need a solid, strong handle extender because you will be applying a fair bit of pressure when scraping some types of algae, and a flimsy PVC handle will simply flex too much to work well. Be certain to thoroughly clean and degrease these metal items before use. This gadget may need sharpening every couple years, but it will last forever and survive anything you throw at it.

For nets, PVC works well as an extender...but I agree with L lindsey regarding a bait shop for nets. They come the larger sizes and lengths, and are much more durable. To clarify, these aren't landing nets used for actual fishing, which have a mesh much too coarse for most aquarium fish. These nets are sold for catching and manipulating bait fish, and have much finer mesh (although still coarser than most aquarium nets).

Edited to add: Frankly, the best tool for working in deep tanks...is a step stool, along with a willingness to get wet. :)

On 1m deep tanks, I incorporate a walk around ledge into the stand. Really makes life easier for long tanks.

On very deep tanks (with 40mm+ glass) look towards floating mighty magnet cleaners. These sized tanks are big enough to climb into so a snorkel mask and a small boat ladder (to get back out).
