Ive got a 125 gal with 3 large HOB filters that make about 50% of the top water have some what of a strong current. Is this bad for my aro? Hes about 4'' and stays mostly where the water is calm. Will he ajust to the water movement when he gets larger or should I have a diff filtration system?

When my aros were smaller they had a tough time with strong currents. Now they are fine in stronger currents.

Hey what's up man i had a 18 inch jardini that absolutely loved the current would let it push him back and swim into it in like a cool dance like it was awsome i found out first he liked it was he was about six inches i put a bubble tube in and he was always swimming in the light current so when he got a little bigger i put a power head in the tank in the middle and like i said he spent half his time there just swimming in it i think he liked it because it was like he just kept swimming to him with out keeping turning around in the tank you know like they always keep swimming and circling the tank he would just swim in that current all the time so i guess what i'm saying is he'll love it when he gets bigger and it doesn't completly push him around and when he can swim in control in it hope i helped some. But also to you;r exact queition one i first got mine i had him in a 55 with a bio wheel filter and a spounde filter and something else i don't remember what and they all flowed over on the top of the tank and they never seemed to bother my dude so you'rs should get used to it soon and like it.

Sincerely

Studies have shown that areas of high water current in the wild have actually stopped arowanas from migrating throughout the range. You do the math. I say top water current is bad for arowana. They come from still water pools and the flooded forests of Amazonia. Whether the fish are visibly stressed, or "have a hard time" by high water flow at the surface doesn't mean they aren't stressed. If you want to re-create their environment in the wild, find a way to diffuse the water below the surface. IMHO

Top water current as you call it is recommended in aro comm tanks to reduce aggression. I've been using it for this purpose with great success. The also do seem to enjoy the current, especially the greenie who will hang out in front of the powerhead playing in the "waves".

I think everyone has good points, I would watch any current that would tumble the little guy, thats too strong, and he needs somewhere that he can rest when he's tired and sometimes current causes little ones to have a hard time fiding food, all these taken into consideration, some current is good, there's always an upper limit. It'll change as he grows too. Best of luck.
