Okay so today I went and bought a 50 gallon topfin powerhead from petsmart. I'm farmiliar with everything except the clear tube? I know it attaches to the notch on the powerhead but what about the opposite end? Does it dangle outside the tank? Right now it's not creating air bubbles like I wanted it to. It's producing water flow to ripple the surface but, will this oxygenate the water? I need help from someone that is farmiliar with these powerheads...

Brook, on some PHs, the vinyl/silicone hose is supposed to be connected to an air pump so the PH blows bubbles out along with water.

So I need to buy an air pump too? Or will it be okay how it is? Initially, is it doing anything benefical as it is now?

creates flow which avoids dead spots in the tank, aim it higher and break the surface tension of the water and you'll have oxygenation.

I would pull off or cap the air hose and do like Josh suggested above. No need to run an air pump just for this.
