Just trying to get all of the info together before I splurge on my next tank. I was talking to the guy at a really nice LFS here in Chicago and he said one of the only drawbacks to using a w/d is the constant need to top off because of a higher evaporation rate. This makes sense to me, but I was just curious how often this actually is for some of you guys.

On a side note, he priced a 120 gal acrylic tank with black acrylic stand and canopy and built in overflow at around $1300. Is this a decent deal? I know it's expensive, but it's a much nicer setup than I see at most places. It's a very clean, modern look, but this is coming from a more high end store.

Thanks in advance.

wet dry top off can be done by dumping some water in the tank or you can get a float switch and have it auto top off....evaporation depends on you tank and sump my tanks all have gglass tops and my sump doesn't need that much top off my old setup didn't either... as for your tank and stand can't give you any input doesn't seem like a bad price but I'm not sure.... all I can say is look into glasscages.com you can get a lot bigger for same or less

Thanks for the response. I don't know about glass cages - I mean, they seem decent and the verdict on here seems to be pretty much split down the middle. The reason I'm so into the tank at the store is all the edges are rounded and it just looks really clean. I know this isn't something that only this store has the ability to get, though, so I just wanted to get some other opinions.

As for the drip system to refill - this requires running a line to your water and have it refill from there? I think I remember reading about this on here before, but it seems like a lot of plumbing work, especially if you don't put the tank where a sink used to be!!

it isnt that big of a deal but you can always get something like this Tom AFS Auto Fill System all you need to do is fill it with dechlorinated water and it will slowly replace any evaporated water...
