Anyone ever heard of a catfish called a torpedo cat ??? The have very long wiskers and are very active. Kinda resembles a pim a little bit . A local pet shop has about a 1/2 dozen and they seem pretty cool. Must of been the weekly special.

thanks....

Thats Calophysus Macropterus. Gets about 19 inches long. An aggressive predator that will likely eat whatever it can fit in its mouth. Also it is known for taking chunks out of the sides of other fish. What city is the petstore you saw them in located?

Thats him !!!!! I found him in the catfish atlas. The petshop is "the shark aquarium" in NJ. The pet shop has a ton of cool cats all overcrowded in small tanks. There must be at least 6-10 of these guys in a 30 gallon. And their 6" long !!!! Would this cat make a decent buddy for a same size RTC and TSN hybrid ???? What else do you know ???

Thanks much.....

From what I understand although there maybe exceptions to the rule, this fish should be kept alone do to its vicious nature. It would likely rough up,injure and stress its tankmates making them susceptible to secondary infections. Until the other two if they survive get big enough to eat the Torpedo cat. The redtail will likely grow the fastest and what it fits in its mouth will be eaten.

Heres whats going on.....I bought the torpedo and thew him in with my RTC and hybrid TSN. Now keep in mind the two original fish are about 1- 1/2" bigger. My RTC has been bullying the HTSN pretty good and it seems the tiger has given in. He's a little battered but survived. Now him and the torpedo have been hangin out and even sit nose to nose :screwy: . The RTC has given up bullying anyone and harmony has been restored. Today all 3 were hanging out together with no squabbles. They actually looked happy. That torpedo doesnt seem too bad.........YET.

Keep a close eye as to the condition of the three fish. Likely most or all of the aggression will occur with the lights in the room and tank off. Its definitely a roll of the dice. Good luck.
