Will these guys (tors and spinibarebus) eat the 3" grow out mahseers I plan to put in soon? Reason why I ask is because the mosquito fishes and bambusas are all gone and Fugupuff Wes kinda hinted some dangers with barbs. I'm afraid he may be right.

is that right? I thought you said the mosquito fish were left untouched the last time. Didn't know they developed a taste for them...and you're sure its not a stork or small bird right? I had some small bird near my pond picking out the smaller fish one by one, daily, and pooping all over the rock it would perch on. In that case, you may have to wait a bit longer before putting them out there. Also when you put new fish out there, they will be in a bit of shockk and be easy target for the barbs to pick off. I mean, you could put the big barbs in a cage or tank temporarily, and let the smaller stuff grow and acclimate for a few weeks or months first., then let the big boys back in, they may have a better chance. Also, are the little tors bigger than the mosquito fish yet? At 3" that is not small either, and they have taller tougher bodies too...

It appears you have at least a few Neolissichilus hexagonalepis in your pond. IME, they will eat ANYTHING and EVERYTHING they can fit in their mouth, including small fishes. If the fish is bigger than their mouth, you are probably okay. Putitora & khudree will also eat fish readily. I've not had any real predation problems with Indonesian mahseers.

Thanks for the advice guys. What I'm hearing is if it will fit in their mouth they will eat it.
I believe the mosquito fishes were untouched for a period because it was during the winter months when the tors are less active. Right about spring time they became more active.
The baby tors are bigger than mosquitos fish and a lot faster so they might stand a chance. I know for a fact that it was not a bird that took the fish. The entire pond is fenced in with four feet high netting.

Okay it's confirmed that the tors are monsters that will eat ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. Today I come home to find my daughter's fancy goldfish with no tail or fins. Eaten down to the body but it is still alive. Obviuosly a gang attack.
Probably my fault because I missed a day of feeding.

yup... they are gangsters highly organized and aggressive. WHen i step into the FGT they do take turns to start "biting" my feet. Sort of eating anything that is edible...

I added 50 baby mahseers in with the two 18" spinibarbus, ten 7" jerdoni and ten 12" neo hex. Seems to be cohabing fine. I guess masheers just don't like chinese fish.

When I put them in the pond they were about 2"-3". Now they are about 6". A few are confirmed putitora and khudri. I'm guessing the rest are mussullah. All are from India.
