I usually feed her untampered grass from my yard along with dandelions, she also eats the pricklypears, geranium and parsley that is planted in her tub but since winter is arriving she wont have the usual grass as a base to the diet. so my question is would the plants in her tub be a good staple diet for her until spring or should i go buy tortoise hay?:)

First of no parsley:grinno: The awnser is both;) You use both the prickly pear(no spines) along side some darkleafy vegetables, the weeds you can find, mazuri tortoise diet and tortoise hay so to make a round up diet

is parsley bad? my uro loves it looks like shes switching too but for the most part the tort eats the prickly pear shes been trying to chop it down for the last week ill get pics it makes me lol:)

Get a shallow tub and fill it with potting soil then plant some grass seed in it. Place it by a window and water....it's that easy! :)

collard and turnip greens are good dark leafy greens. sometimes you can get dandelion greens from the store too in the winter. maybe picking some and freezing them to thaw out would be a good idea too. never tried it so i dont know how good they will be after thaw. i just thought of it now lol

Nice sulcata! One day it will grow into large adults like mine! I fed them lettuce, tomatoes, alot of hay, hibiscus flowers is a favorite! My stars are similar in diet to your sulcata. The adult sulcatas eat mostly pellets, all the vegetables and flowers mentioned above and a few fruits once in a while. They eat strictly vegetables, cucumbers (seedles), celerary, carrots, dandelions are great to!Enjoy they are really great animals and will surprise you are how fast they will grow up.

Great animals you have :headbang2very beautifull turts:D but like I said before to you letuce and tomatos dont do anything in their diet:grinno:. Ill be more presise. Letuce and tomato are both very rich in phosphorus, low in calcium, high in nitrates and goitrogens and low in fiber. Thouse big sulcatas aint gonna get no metabolic bonne desiase from it but they can get runny fezes and parasitary infestasions from it. And dont feed thouse white and bleached letuce leafs to your baby stars for peat shake:nilly:They are so small and young that they dont have enogh calcium in their shells to cope with the way excess phoporus ions that meal contains and that leting alone all the other junk thouse leafs have

Parsley has the problem that is too high both in phosphorus and oxalates, much like spinach so it isnt the kind of thing I would recomend as a staple:grinno:

Thanks man will keep that in mind, usually they eat the romain. The stars eat alot of flowers an such to. Mazuri pellets maybe once a week or so.
