I just picked my pair up a few weeks ago at a conventiona nd they spawned already. i am totally stoked, this is my second set of apistos to spawn within teh past few weeks. Watching how they parent is my favorite part, these females deserve a medal! Anyway, here are a few pics of poor quality, lol

that si awsome cant wait to see more pics just woundering why is it orange the water every thing in the pic looks orange

its a blackwater tank so its so full of tannins the tank lights make everything look brown/orange. Here is a picture of the species which I did not take:
mine are actually a bit nicer than this example but they are called orange because the males have bright orange fins:

When I have time, I will pull the male out into a dip and pour to get shots of him. My pair are really really n ice with great banding as well as the vibrant fins.

ooo ok i was goin to say you have a poblem but i love the colors on him

I didn't think mine could either. My pH is 8.0 out of the tap with a gh of 10 kh of 14, so moderately hard at least. I put in several small new pieces of malaysian driftwood, about half a dozen indian almond leaves, and the coconut hut for their spawning place. I conditioned with live foods and they spawned. my baenchi upstairs spawned as well. So far, apistos have been super rewarding for me!

Congrats!

It is kind of strange seeing cac's in a blackwater tank. They come from water very similiar to your tap water msjinkzd ... pH 7.6, gh 12 Kh 14 ... they obviously don't care though, nice job!!

yea, i know they don't care about the almond leaves (which do nominal shifts to pH andhardness anyway) but the fry graze on the infusoria produced anyway, lol. I add those and alder cones to any tank I am hoping will have fry.
