Alright, here is my problem:
I was looking around for a job about a year ago and had a few opportunities and ended up turning them down because I got some nice scholarship money. One of the places I was looking for a job was my LFS but the owner said he was not hiring anyone at the moment. I went in just to say hey and see what the stock was today and I was offered a job. Here is the thing though, it is not exactly a legit business and has some bad reviews about how dirty the store is and there being a few dead fish in some of the tanks etc. From what I understand, the owner is a bit of a control freak and I do not think i will be able to do much in the way of improvements to the stores quality and I don't really want to work there if it is going to hurt my reputation as a good hobbyist or possibly get me involved in trouble with the FWC due to some sketchy sales. I don't exactly need the money but it would be nice to have some extra and I have a good class schedule for a part time job and I could get my hands on some prime fish that would make most people here drool (plus an employee discount).

So what should I do? should I be ethical and turn it down or should I go for the job and turn a blind eye to some things? I am really split 50/50. I am going back to the store tomorrow afternoon to talk with the owner.

Thanks for hearing me out and the input guys.

take it and atleast try it for a bit if you don't like it quit

Go in take the job, and try to turn the place around. You actually have a chance to maybe improve the place especially for the fish, so if you have a chance even a small one take it, and if it doesnt work out you tried, and it pays so why not give it a chance.

if it was me i think i'd try out for the job, give it a few weeks see if you can slowly make any improvements/changes - you never know, it might work out. if it doesnt then just hand in your notice! at least you know you've had the experience.

If I know for a fact I can make a change then I would go for it and try to make that change happen but if it's a hopless battle then i would get out soon and keep your moral and ethical values. I wouldnt work at a place if I had to turn a blind eye to something ethical like the care of the fish or "sketchy" fish being sold.
