I think I need a tough scavenger catfish for my 120 gallon. My pictus catfish has just been brutally mauled, and killed by "Lambchop" my Cobra Pike. I currently have a pair of Loisellei's in my tank, as well as the pike. I also have a Raphael catfish, who doesn't really do much, and a big featherfin synodontis, who is in a seperate tank for now. Is there any sort of bottomfeeder that would be able to stand up to such aggressive fish and do a good job cleaning up around the tank? I don't wan't anything enormous, because I am worried about overcrowding.

The featherfin is a good choice, also tiger loach Syncrossus helodes not a schooler loach like the others,or a big pleco

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into the tiger loach. I just have to find one big enough, because I know they are slow growers. As for a pleco, In my experience, they seem to produce more waste than they clean up.

I had a similar experience with a pictus, seemed to be a great choice then one day he was bit in half:eek: still alive a year later but not with the tough fish

The tiger loach I have is more than a match for the mbuna he shares a tank with and does an excellent job scavenging extra food.I usually supplement his diet with a few ramshorn snails once a week, loaches need snails or worms in thier diet.

As for the pleco I must be really lucky I got one as a common only grew to about 8" in 2 years is a voracious algae eater and scavenger, and isnt a poop machine like my royal.
