toughened laminated glass question

hi all,

currently working on a 4500 gallon tank and my engineer has suggested that i use toughened laminated glass.

tank will be built of blockwork, steel and 3 sides glass of varying sizes.

can i please have your thought on this type of glass for this type of application?

I've often thought of this- 3/8" tempered is cheeper than 1/2" regular, and would have less distortion & weight.
