Canada eh?
Hey all, i have 2 RBP's and im really getting tired of sneaking up to the tank slowly, and not being able to move in front of them. If i dont they freak the hell out :nilly: lol. is there a way to tough'n em up so they wont be scard every time im around and hide?

Also they refuse to eat in front of me.. they wait till im like 5 feet away befor they come out of hideing.... really anoying

how big are they? how long you had em? what's all do you have in the tank?

the best way to get them to stop being scared of you is to spend some time in front of the tank, once they get used to you coming around, they won't look at you as such a threat and they'll be a bit more entertaining.

you can also add more cover to the tank to make them feel more comfortable, anything like fake or live plants, driftwood, rocks, etc.

There about 4 1/2 inches, I had em for 4 weeks, and i dont understand the last question..

if you've only had em for a couple weeks, they probably just need a bit of time to settle in, although adding some cover in the tank would definitely help speed up the process

haha, sorry about the last question, i think i went to re-word it and forgot to change "what's" to "what". i was just asking what you have in the tank besides your fish... plants, rocks, driftwood, etc.

I'm definately no expert here, just brought my piranha (7) home a week ago. I sit in front of the tank every night when I get home from work while I am feeding them. They are only about 2-3 inches but seem to have no bashfulness in them at all. They dont run and hide when I'm around. My tank is full of places for them to hide so maybe that makes them feel more comfortable. But right now they eat and swim arounnd the front of tank all day long with my face right in theirs! I know it sounds crazy but its like they enjoy it when I am around. Maybe they equate me in front of the tank with feeding time.

maybe its beacause they are a shoaling fish and having only to makes them more timid and nervous than, lets say having 5 or 6 at least so they feel more comfortable

they aren't a typical shoaling fish, the numbers thing is kind of a myth when it comes to piranhas. alot of people say that you shouldn't have two because the dominant one will be aggressive towards the other one or prevent it from eating, but that's not the case with every pair. one fish can be just as comfortable by itself as it would be in a group, they are however usually a bit more entertaining in a group due to the fact that there is competition for food

I used to have 5 piranha and they were pretty shy. I sold 3 of them. Then 1 killed the weaker one so I only had 1 left. He was super cool by himself he acted like a Oscar. I actually was scared to open the lid he would sit there waiting, even have his nose/mouth breaking the surface of the water. Waiting for something to be dropped in. He would follow me when I walked by the tank. Dang he was cool.
