So my tanks are cycled well (zero ammonia and nitrites), but I want to know what levels of nitrates begin to hurt the fish and at what levels are they toxic?
I was using an API test kit and would generally get reading around 10 or 20 ppm before my water changes. I recently purchased a Red Sea test kit (only one available at LFS) and I now get reading in a range. Typically I get a reading of 5-25 or 10-50 PPM before water changes with this new test kit. The next reading on the card is 20-100 PPM. I find myself doing more frequent water changes because of this ranged reading.
If they go as high as this level, or even the next which is 50-100 PPM, will my fish be severely injured or die from it?
BTW, I am doing 25-30% wc's twice a week. Overkill?
