Anyone know if I can use thread sealant to help with the screw in unions or am I going to Hurt the fish? A buddy said he has used it without issue but I was skeptical.

There are no toxicity warnings on the bottle.

I think it should be fine based on their website description for use with potable water but try to only keep it on the threads and not inside the plumbing lines. If you can, flush thoroughly with water prior to using in the tank.

Thanks so much. Happy holidays.

may I ask why you are using solvent on threads? Threaded connections should not be solvent welded. I would recommend to use plumbers tape and a properly join the two pieces.

It's not a solvent, it's pipe dope!

I agree that teflon plumber's tape is a great option and one I've used with success. Less messy, cleaner look and fun to remember which way to install it on the threads

Use tef tape. Plumbers dope is most often petroleum based even the teflon type which has teflon fibers mixed in to give it body and fill in the gaps.
