Hi All,
Im new to the forum and new to the hobby. I just got a 125 gallon tank and stand, and now Im working on building a canopy and lighting. For now, I plan on doing a freshwater setup and over time, I want to do saltwater.

My biggest concern right now is my lighting. Has anyone ever used track lighting? Like the kind you would put on your ceiling? The idea occured to me while I was cleaning the tank out. My only concern would be how hot track lighting gets, I know it gets very hot after its been on for some time. Thanks

halogen track lighting?

If its incandescent, you could go with the screw in compact flourescent bulbs and it would work well, and be cheap to operate.
If its halogen, you might want to install a fan to dissipate heat.

also, WELCOME TO MFK!

ive actually had the same question for a while. but more trying to figure out if there's track lighting that would be appropriate for a saltwater or planted tank (ie - correct spectrum, wattage, etc) if anyone knows of any manufacturers that produce such an item, that would be awesome.

Thanks Rallys,
I have been looking at track lighting online, and it looks like it may hang down lower than I want. When I bought track lighting for my ceiling, I seem to remember lighting that didnt actually hang off the track, Ill have to go back and look in person.

I was thinking about putting a piece of plexi glass in-between the lights and the water, could that help out on the heat?

If anything, what is a good flourescent fixture to get? My tank is 72" long

Sounds good, I have to be at lowes soon so Im going to go look at the track lighting and wood. Where can you buy the computer fans?
