Hey guys, Very bad news. Due to a Water change Mishap my large male red terror passed away on Saturday. It really has left me reeling and upset with my 150 gallon tank. So i will be selling off my remaining stock and restarting it with a bit more thought put into it.
So that leads me to my future stocking. Tank is a 5'x2' 150 gallon, Ideally the tank will be planted with both rocks and driftwood, but not a super big emphasis on scape. so keep that in mind when reading these.
Option 1: Start with 6 Cichla intermedia - Grow them out to sexable size and keep the pair that seems most compatible.
I know the tank is small and most likely not conducive to a pair of cichla and a full scape long term, so I would probably remove a lot of the hardscape as they grew and switch it out for slate to breed on, It also helps intermedia are a smaller SP, but would be willing to do kelberi as well
Option 2: a Group of Sinaperca
the two species I have in mind for this are schertzi and chautsi. I would want 3-4, ideally more if finances allow. Perhaps a group of dithers since the bioload would be less than cichla.
What option do you think I should go with. Price is also a consideration for me, and by my estimates the sinipera are about 2x the price of cichla, and I would not be able to recoup the cost by selling off a few as they grew.
Let me know your thoughts and opinions, I would love to hear what you would do if you had this tank!
