When I woke up at 6:30am in the morning i routinely walked over to my fish room. What I saw made me question if I ever wanted to keep fish again. My 180 gallon tank had lost its center brace and all of my lighting ,air pumps, and everything else electric fell into my tank. (However it did not electrocute my water thanks to good waterproof connections) My juvenile red tailed catfish was sitting at the bottom alive and hardly breathing gasping with his gills and my 2 foot silver Arowana lie on the floor beside my tank gills still red but un revivable. :( :( he died there on the floor and I am so upset i couldn't do anything about it.....he was my favorite fish aside from my RTC so after using my entire day to take apart the entire tank and re setting it up (my glass is 1 inch thick so I figured I didn't need the center brace anyway ) I am here posting this tragedy it's all kind of normal again except just without my prized 2 foot silver arowana :( :( :(

I am so sorry to hear. I hope no one got hurt.

Sorry for your loss. What do you think caused the centre brace to break? Is it thin enough that the big silver could have broken it by jumping? 1"/25mm seems crazy thick for a 180g tank, and I agree that you wouldn't need a centre brace (and could probably go rimless in fact!) with glass that thickness, which makes it even stranger that the brace would break as I don't think it would have been under much stress.

When I re siliconed the tank I did everything but the center brace and I think that the silicone on the center brace got old so it completely just fell in and took the lights and all with it and I think that my arowana got freaked out jumped out and smacked the floor if he would have jumped and broke the center brace as opposed to the center brace falling in I think that my lighting fixtures would have been on the outside of the tank rather than the inside so yeah the redtail is fine and stabilized and all is good so far I am just finishing cleaning up the total carnage and I hope this never happens to you guys I wouldent wish what just happened to me on my worst enemy

It will never be the same without my arowana waiting for me to come in every morning. I'm already starting to feel like I need to fill a void
