A couple of weeks ago I got of pair of beautiful wild caught Jags from Jeff Rapps to try and breed. I came home a couple of days ago and found the male belly up. Well I decided to take a chance and put my big male Jag back in his old tank with the much smaller female. I built her a safehaven out of driftwood that he can't get into. Sometimes she can come out and swim but a lot of the time, he attacks her. She's about 7.5-8" and he's about a foot. What do yall think? Could they pair up?

Wow that male was a beatiful fish im srry to hear about your loss. I doubt that you could pair up the wc female with your male but hey who knows. Btw your male is awesome.

Well now that i take a closer look at your pics it seems to me your male is tolerating the female??? If so they may have a higher possibility of pairng up.

Only occasionally will he tolerate her. She spends a lot of time hiding out in her log cabin. Sometimes the male manages to twist and squeeze his way into the log pile and he'll sit in there for a couple of hours and she'll swim all around. I'm usally not a breeder, just a community fish keeper. It's too stressful :nilly: ....thinkin' I'ma go back to easy non-breeding fish keeping. lol

Thanks, the pics don't show his 'purple sheen' though, it's pretty cool. He's definitely my favorite fish.

Here's the dead male. He's all beat up and bloody.

I am interested in the outcome of your attempt to spawn a wild caght and a captive raised time will tell best of luck.

Aren't Jags one of the easy-to-breed fish? It might happen.
