Let me first start by saying I'm an idiot. I killed all of my fish with my own stupidity. So here is how it happened my heater on my 240 felt like it wasn't doing the job so I went and picked up another one, I put it in without taking my other one out and basically overnight I cooked my fish. I was so upset with myself when I discovered it the next mourning I loved my fish very much and take pride on taking care of them. I have one 12" albino oscar and 13" wild caught oscar from peru that thankfully made it through. But I still lost my 13" tiger oscar, my beloved 12" wild caught columbian oscar, 2 six inch wild caught silver saums, one pair of pink convicts and a shoal of silver dollars. I feel absolutely horrible. My one wild oscar had such beautiful patterns on him and seriously had a top and bottom row of very large pirahna serrated like teeth absolutely amazing looking, and the silver saums were some of the most gorgeous saums i've ever seen in my life. Well any way thanks for listening and even though this sucks a big one life goes on and hopefully i can get my hands of some more wild caught os and saums/terrors. If anyone has never owned wild caught os they are a treat. They change colors faster than any other cichlid ive seen they tend to be much more aggressive grow bigger faster much bigger teeth man they are just awsome.

oh yea sorry for venting its just that nobody really understands how this makes you feel when this happens unless its happened to you which im sure everyone on here has lost beloved fish in a shi tty way. especially when its your own fault but thanks for listening

man that's intense, always good to start over though!
post some pictures sometime of them.

Sorry for your loss. Keep your head up! It happens, just keep the ones that are alive and treat them that much better. Good luck on your search for new fish.

Are you sure it was the heater?? Im surprised that two heaters could cooked your fish in a 240 gallon, I lefted two heaters on in my 180 gallon at the beginning of last summer and my fish was fine.....

Higher the Temp reduces the O2...............it's possible they sufficated.

I feel for ya lost whole tanks myself to my own dumb fault. Had 8 Red bellies - 2 had ich ........ being half scale fish it was hard to treat but kept after it daily ........... did a huge water change and retreat grabbed the wrong bottle of API , grabbed the sediment in the water bottle not the de-chlorinater, treated for Ich ...............next moring fish had no scales, burnt and dying with no hope of curing................ich was gone tho.

Sorry to hear that.. hopefully you can rebuild your collection soon.

Hi.. Sorry for your loss.. It hurts to lose anything/anyone we've cared for. I also am thinking it was loss of o2 rather than heat.. Did you have a thermometer measuring the heat so you would know??? I've had 2 heaters in my 120 accidentally left on way up but I have 2 canister filters and add an airstone or sponge filter when I raise the temp to treaty for illness or anything.. It's gotten up to 94 and all the fish are fine as long as there is sufficient oxygen.. Heaters are probably the most prone to fail thing we put in our tanks so don't beat yourself up too much.. Now concentrate on the beloved ones you have left and let them make you smile.. Sue:D

awh I'm sorry , they sounded like beautiful fish. I have two heaters on my 125 and they only turn on when the temp drops below 75. was it because you put in a heator that was to large for the tank?

oh and also think of the possiblities of the new fish you can get now , that might cheer you up. ;)
