training tat to take dead foods

i tried feeding him with a shrimp tied to a fish line.
he didnt take it.
i tried stuffing the shrimp w pellets so it would float around a bit.
but he looked at it but didnt take it.
ive stuffed him w feeders and am going to attempt to starve him.
but i hope he doesnt get aggro and kill my CL.
ive seen him fake-shanking it regularly.
anyone has better ways of getting them off live foods?
west1,yours are eating live only too right?

I tried to launch feeders in the tank and one of my Tats meets the feeder as he breaks the surface. Kind of funny, but I did this out of aggression and it might work. I'm going to keep launching comets in the water and ocasionally throw in a shrimp.
We will see what happends

What I am trying to get out of this is to get my Tats to hear the splash of the water and know it is food. I've tried a few diff methods for a couple weeks each and no results. The best I got was taking shots of silversides from fishing line (only 3 days of taking shots, then stopped)

So hopefully by the splashing I can get them used to the sound and add a shrimp every here and there so they can take accident shots on shrimp.
I dont throw the comets like a baseball, but I toss them in so there is a slight slpash (soft enough so that the fish dont get scared)

JMO, I think you should try to get him off live now. Even if he is 1".
I think it is how you go about getting him off. If he is a Juvi, keep him fed, but introduce him to other food (do not starve him at all!!!). It could work for you and against you (as far as size). If you get him used to live, it would be that much more harder to get off live (again JMO), trust me.
I would try to feed shrimp before feeders. Maybe to get him used to the smell of shrimp and in time maybe he will think it is a feeder and take a shot??

i was putting other food in for a week or two at a time (no feeders) and it won't eat anything. being that it wasn't eating anything, it was weak and getting picked on by an ornate bichir. I just want it to grow its tail back and fatten up a little before I try getting it off live. IDK where you got that it's 1", but it's 6. A day or so after it eats the feeders I have in with it, I will try a whole shrimp and see if it will take it.

i bet if u get them real hungry and throw some dead feeders infront of a powerhead, they might take a shot.

i think it is key to get tats on large goldfish asap to stretch their stomachs.

even if they dont look like theyre alive.

but my tat wont eat right off the surface.
i guess hes too lazy cause he knows itll swim down a bit.
im guessing you'll be first since one of your tats are already eating shrimp.

mine got too accustomed to feeders cause when i got him he was full of ich and really weak.

None of mine are eating M.Shrimp. I the launch method only works (for me) because I have more than 1 Tat, so they have comp. to eat (just a wild guess).

it should work.
it does in most fish.
im gonna starve my tat and throw in a piece of shrimp once in a while.
