Hi, I currently have a 4ft tank with discus which has been up and running for a few years, I have a breeding pair in there that spawn regularly, the fry hatch but will always dissappear withing a few days. It is a community tank with bristlenose plecs ( which also spawn), zebra botia`s and cardinals.
I went and bought another tank for the breeding pair (3ftx2ftx2ft).
Over the last three weeks I have slowly been adding mature water from the 4ft tank and swapped some of the media over in the filter to get the water parameters close as poss to the 4 ft.
this weekend I will be putting the discus in their new tank and although I`m not expecting them to spawn for a few weeks, will there be anything to worry about or to look out for?

Sounds like you're good to go. I do have this one pair that will spawn in the main tank, but the male refuses to fertilize the eggs in a breeder tank. Go figure. He's a weird one. Unless you run into something strange like that, you shouldn't have any problems.

^^^I have the same darned problem. They spawn like mad in the community tank, yet when I stick them in the breeder tank with the same water, low light and soft music, nothing! Good luck mate!!

Hi.. Good luck with the pair. Most of the time, as long as the pair has often successfully spawned, fertilized and attempted to raise their fry in a community tank, they should continue to try in their own little love nest...
Sometimes tho they seem to need others to tighten their bond. If you find that the "love shack" isn't enough to encourage them to spawn you might temporarily move some tankmates in for a bit and them later move them out after the pair has made an attempt at raising young.. Good luck and lets see some pics down the line.. Sue:D

UPDATE....
after being in their new tank for 4 days, yep, for day !!!! my discus have spawned, they are more relaxed in this tank and hopefully will not eat the fry this time.
I`ll post pics of the tank set up over the weekend
