Doing water changes
I am suppose to be picking up a 240 and I am going to be transferring all my fish from my 100 tank to the 240. I was just wondering if anyone has any tips on how to make this a smoother process I'd appreciate

Set up your 240 gal by putting water, treat it, to take the chlorine out and other harmful elements. Put heaters. Make sure the original temp from the old tank can be almost the same as the new tank.

Before you start draining your water, put the old tank's water to the new tank. Since you have 100 gal of old water, use it. just fill up the new tank up to 120 gal and the rest from the old tank. do not throw away your old water. it is useful, one it will help you go to the temp you wanted to, second the aged water will help for the fish to avoid stressful situation.

If you have big bins, put all the fish in the bin, with the old water. have some drip tubes to acclimate them from the old to the new tank.

once the desired temperature has been reached, start acclimating them.

use your old filter (canister, wet/dry, HOB) on the new tank. You don't need to cycle it. Just treat the water before doing anything (the new one).

Transferring them is up to you. if they are small fish, use a small bucket, scoop them out and slowly release them.

If you have a big fish, I would get a big bag and slowly release them.

if you don't have any big bags.. i would net them out and put them in right away (after acclimation).

I hope I made sense.:D

Stress coat helps for me when i transfer fish... but that's my opinion. :D

yeah i aggree..that sounds like the best idea..and use some of the old media for know until the tank is cycled thats wat i usually do..

use your old filter (canister, wet/dry, HOB) on the new tank. You don't need to cycle it. Just treat the water before doing anything (the new one).

this is the most critical part......keeps your cycled system intact........feed lightly for the first week or two to let the new system cycle and catch up to the old bio load.... the filter is only once source of bio filtering....lots of good bacteria also live inside the tank gravel etc

Well what i was thinking is to first drain the 100 into the 240 first. (after i clean it) then moving the 100 out of the way. Then draining the 240 back into the 100. folowed by moving the 240 in place and then draining the 100 back into the 240 after its in place. once the tank is filled substarte transferred and the filters are up and running with the right temp put the fish back in. And for all the draining ill be using a pump to make it quicker. shouldnt take longer then 3-4 hours im thinking

The biofiltering bugs can double in quantity in about 24 hours, given food and media....

IS that a ID 10 T error i made? I love telling people that. Theyll ask whats wrong with it. And all u say is looks like the usual I.D. 10 T error and most people are like "oh Yeah" When you just called them an idiot
