On Wednesday of next week, I will coming home from school. The trip is from South Bend to Chicago, so I'll be in the car for around 2 hours.

I'll be transporting a 6" Jack Dempsey, 3" Afra Cobue, 2" Yellow Lab, and 2 African Mbunas sized at 3" and 5". This is the first time I've had to transport fish this far, and I'm going to need some help.

Anything you guys can suggest would be very helpful and greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

get an AC to DC power changer thing (turns car electricity into a regular house plug) and then plug a power strip into it. get an air stone ( if you can a sponge filter) and air pump and plug it into the power strip. and your heater if you think its going to get crazy cold (i think youll be good but it wont hurt)

take EVERYTHING(deco, subsrate, filter media, enough water to cover fish and stuff listed) from your tank and put it in what your fish are going to ride in. make sure the air stone (or sponge filter) are in there and on. and the put the lid on cause you dont want to spill water everywhere

AND DRIVE HOME!

any questions? im doing the same thing with my 10 gal here in a few days btw

Yeah, one question. First of all, thank you for all of the tips. What size rubbermaid tub should I get? Like a 30 gallon?

how about transporting larger fish like arowanas? i plan on picking a 20" aro from a local member here in vegas and he lives about a good 10-15 min trip from my house. so 30 round trip. would a rubbermaid tub and air pump be good?

You'd be fine in any tub with a lid lol. Just remember to tell the other person not to feed it for 1-2 days.

you wont need the air pump, but it wouldnt hurt anything haha. i moved a common pleco in an 18 gal rubbermaid an hour or so with just water and it was fine. and 2 LARGE oscars about half an hour in the same tub (diff times) and they were fine

I have a 30 gallon rubbermaid tub you can borrow, big black trashbags also work pretty well. I used it to transport my 3 arowana when i moved in January. You're probably not going to need an aerator for 15-20 minutes, I used one when i moved because I first had to catch them and put them in the tub. Then I had to finish draining my tank and taking out all the gravel. Load the tank and stand into the uhaul truck, drive slowly to my new place. Unload the tank and stand out of the uhaul truck. Fill up the newtank and keep in mind i saved as much water as i could contain from my old tank. Then finally i got all my filters running for a good 10 mins i put them in.
