Milky Way Galaxy,
Hey guys am getting a AG that needs a new home (going in my 12x12 pond). Since they are atmospheric breathers can i transport him in wet towels? the ride will only be 2min away even less. Am 14 bout 6' i think i can handle him by my self?? thanks guys

Have any Rubbermaid containers that it might fit in? I transported my largest two alligator gars (both were 18" then) in a shallow container with just enough water to cover them, and they did just fine for a 45 minute drive without an aerator.

As for handling the gar, fishing gloves will help you keep a good grip on it and be sure to cover its eyes when you go to pick it up in order to keep it a bit calmer than if you didn't cover its eyes. It will still thrash a bit, so be careful not to get bitten or cut by it.

two minutes should be fine! but you can always find plastic container that longer than 2ft at walmart!

as a last resort wet towels can work, but if you can get a large rubbermaid and just fill it with even an inch of water you should be fine. stress can kill gars in transport unpredictably, so i wouldn't count on transport in towels unless nothing else will work. that being said, i would imagine the fish should be ok - keep in mind that even wet towels can scrape off a lot of their protective slime, so that is another drawback. good luck--

did I read correctly that you are saying you are 14 years old and this gar is 6 feet long?

LOL i am 6' the gar is 2ft anyway the guy was super nice and lent me his ice cooler with the gar in it. I got him in my pond ASAP (after i made his water temp the same with mind but there was such little water in the cooler anyway that it only took like 2 min). Ill post some pics! this gar's teeth was about 1"!!!!

hmm forgot the guys said he eats pellets, feeders n Cray fish. How the hell will he find pellets in my pond tho?! Should I dip them in garlic?

no need garlic, the gar will be able to smell it out. throw some live fish to breed in there in case you're worried.
