hi,
im planning to buy a friend's red aro. but he lives in another state. its like almost 4-5 hours drive from my place.

how do i transport the aro? what would i need to keep it comfy? help please..

6inches?

At that size, transport won't be an issue at all. Here's what you do:

1) You'll need a styrofoam container with a lid or a cooler of some sort. The goal here is to have something that will reduce temperature fluctuations (I don't imagine you'll have much of an issue with heat loss in Malaysia :))

2) You'll also need a thick fish bag (3mm is best). I recommend you double bag. If you can find the square bottom bags, these work great for aro's.

3) Fill the bag no more than half-way with tankwater and place the aro in the bag. How you catch the fish is up to you. Little guys are especially jumpy, so make sure you drop the water level.

4) A squirt of prime (or something similar) will reduce stress and improve slimecoat production. In North America we have a product called bag buddies that works great. You drop a tablet in the bag and it releases dissolved oxygen and a mild anasthetic to reduce stress.

5) Tie the bag with air and put the fish in the styrofoam box/cooler.

An aro that size will be fine without oxygen for the time needed to drive home. These are very hardy fish, and provided it's healthy in the first place you should have no issue transporting. When you get home, take the necessary precautions to acclimate.

Cheers,

Brandon

i refer to number 4. Is prime equivalent to black water? black water is said to help reduce stress..

No, prime is a water conditioner. It does a lot of things, but most importantly during the shipping process it reduces ammonia and helps slimecoat production.

hmm.. i'll have to go look for some prime then. i dont think ive seen it b4. thanx!!

I would put the Arowana into a tub of some sort, and I'd bring an airstone and plug it into the car. If possible add something like Prime but I think Blackwater would do.
