Hey guys I was wondering how do you transport fish if the trip is more than 24 hours? I'm going on a trip that ends on sunday and the fish store closes on saturday. The fish would die in the bags so could I make a temporary home for them in a cooler, my car has outlets so i can use filters, heaters, bubblers ect. Has any one done this before? Hints and tips would be appreciated.

If u fill the bag with pure o2 it should last 24 hours np if your going to use a cooler or somthing use a battery powered air pump

I have done it with 5g buckets with holes drilled in the top. I used battery powered air stones and Bag Buddies. Temperature was not a problem, at the time. If it had been I would have used a cooler and had some heat packs or cold packs on standby. The Bag Buddies have a mild tranquilizer and are supposed to help keep the O2 up in the water.

Coolers help keep the temp stable, just drill a small hole in the lid for an air line hooked up to an air pump.

Airpump, prime/safe and water changes along the way.

I drove from California to the Midwest with an overnight stay with my fish in a bag. I double bagged her, wrapped the bag in duct tape, put the bag in a Styrofoam cooler and filled the cooler with packing paper and she was fine when I got her out.

I didn't feed her for 48 hours before the trip.

Check out our Articles Forum.
I wrote an extensive report how I moved with my fish half way across the country.
I'd be surprised if you couldn't find inspiration there...
