Plan is to transport a 10" Festae (cichlid) 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Transport in 15 gallons of his current tank water in a 20 gallon tote with holes punched in the lid for oxygen.

Doesn't seem like a very long trip. Think it'll be all good?

Will drip acclimate to the new tank in the 20 gallon tote once I get it home.

Ok.....I figured the trip was short enough that he should be ok.

When I get home, should I treat the tote water with Amquel right away before starting the drip acclimation?

I'll also use melafix in the tank he's going in (always like to use it when I introduce new fish).

I'd do only enough to cover his back by an inch. The sloshing of the water on the drive should be enough agitation to permit oxygen exhange. I've done a drive from sacramento to los angeles with a 12" male mota after ACA 2007 in a small cooler with zero issues. Ask them not to feed two days before pick up that way he doesn't foul up the water.

The Mota had been driven from Seattle, WA to Sacramento in the same fashion.

Seedubs....

Go to Walmart and buy a battery operated bubbler....it's $9 in the Fishing Dept..........Their always good to have...

Got him in the tank last night.....And he immediately beat up my JD. JD is now healing in his own tank.

The bit of sloshing in the bucket seemed to be enough airation for the 1 hour and 45 minute drive.

When I got home, I immediately dosed with amquel. Then started a drip acclimation into the bucket and added the second air line from my Rena 400 to the bucket to aid in airation. Once the water was 50% his old tank water and 50% his new home's water (took about 45 minutes), I transfered him to the new tank that was treated with melafix to reduce stress.

I think next time, I'm going to get one of those battery powered airators. That sounds like a smart investment for about $10, and it would have eased my mind for the drive home even thought he was 100% fine from the ride.

He's banging glass already and chasing my pictus cats out of the caves (he's already claimed 2 caves as his). And this is pretty nice, because I haven't seen those cat's in a while.....And they've gotten big :headbang2

I'll try to feed him later tonight. Hopefully he'll take some shrimp and/or bloodworms.
