I'm going on a trip and plan on getting some fish while there. My idea is to have 1 or 2 coolers and 3 air pumps for the trip. I was going to get some plastic tupperware and put alot of tiny holes in the bowl and lid to put the fish in, then put the tupperware in the coolers for transporting. At most the fish will be in the cooler/tupperware for a day.

Any other ideas?

Yes, seeing as it is winter, and my guess is that Wisconsin is about as cold as Iowa is, a heater would be a prime idea if the trip is going to be longer than 4 hours. What I have done in the past which may (errr WAS) overkill was fill a cooler with 80 degree water and put a 50W heater in there plugged into my car through an inverter. Put the fish in their bags (filled with pure oxygen) in the water and off I was.
One snowstorm, two semi's collided, one hour backup, and I got home and the fish were fine.

How far of a trip were you planning? ive been to fish auctions and have bought fish that were sitting in their bags all day on a table and brought them home and had them be just fine! Just make sure you have plenty of air in your bag when you go to buy the fish. You could try a styro for transport but my buddy and I didnt have one and we had no casualties..

Bagged with Oxygen, they can last 24 hours. I would definitely bring the cooler, but forget the tupperware.

Get the fish seller to fast the fish if possible. ie view and buy the fish asap but dont pickup until the last minute and ask them not to feed. I would get them individually bagged with oxygen and pack in a cooler but bring the airpump and spare neutraliser (Prime has ammonia remover) as backup. They will be good for 3-4 days this way if temp isnt a problem. Keep the cooler box somewhere warm and dark if its going to be a few days.

I have moved them before and i would put them in bags and use some hand warmers in the bottom of the cooler to keep the water in the bags warm. keeps you from pluging in a heater.

curious why everyone is saying bag?
i know people ship in bags for longer then a day but
if you could use buckets or a cooler and air,why not?lol
cus of air temp?
i always transport in buckets with battery powered air.
but im also in fl lol

Because it's tough to fill a bucket with pure oxygen.
