So cal/ LAX
So I live right next to lax and I'm visiting San Francisco and San Jose for 5 days and of course I will be stopping at the shops around there. So on a side note if anyone wants to point me out to some shops on San Jose is Sam Francisco that would be awesome. But more importantly I wanted to know what you guys think the chances are of a fish surviving a 7 hour drive on the megabus from San Francisco to LA. The bus has outlets so I was thinking of grabbing an electric heating pad to keep the water warm but will oxygen levels deplete during the ride? Or maybe ammonia burn? What do you think.
I'm not 100% sure I will be purchasing anything but if there's something that really catches my attention I may want to try it.

The legnth of time shouldnt be a problem, based on the fact fish get shipped around the world, getting too cold or hot on the other hand is another situation all together which im not sure about

What are the temps in CA this time of the year? I don`t think you have to worry about fish getting cold. If they are bagged with o2 they should be just fine for a short trip like that.

You might worry more about someone seeing the water they are in and wanting to steal it! lol

I agree, there would be no need for heating pads, especially if you bring a styro large enough to hold whatever bags you end up with.
If possible have whatever LFS, or breeder hold the fish until just before you are ready to leave, double bag, and pack tightly into the styro or suitcase.

I was thinking of packing it into my backpack since they tend to throw luggage around. The bus is air conditioned so the temperature is I'd say around 68 degrees. Would the fish survive if the bags are not packed with pure O2? I've rarely seen stores pack bags with pure O2.

I wouldn't worry about the temps at all. I've done like 3 or 4 hours before with no problems.

I'd think the constant movement on the bus would keep the surface of the water agitated. But I'm not sure if the gas exchange can really happen in the confines of the bags... you could always bring a battery operated air pump and some extra twist ties or rubber bands. I've put airstones in fish bags before. Just make sure they are supported and sitting in a way thay they cant lose their shape and spill
