transporting new bichirs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
have the store half fill the bag with water and half oxygen then on the trip keep them out of direct sunlight and you should be fine -Anne

Tell the shop that you're making a long trip. They can figure out what needs to be done. I think that 2 hours is fine though.

I'll add a thought. The bag with oxygen as Anne stated, I would recomment placing foam or something with cushion around the bags then into the cooler. The boat ride maybe somewhat rough and this will prevent the fish from hitting the hard side of a container.

When I rellocated a few years ago, my poly's had to endure a 8 hour drive, I used plastic buckets. Upon arrivall the nostrils were flattened and the snouts red and bruised from bangining into the side of the buckets.

Good Luck

Yeah... Here in our place, we have vendors who sells fish direct to your house... I asked them how many hours do fish can stay in a bag w/ oxygen... They told me that it depends on how many fish in a bag... A bag with one fish can stay for 12-16 hours in a bag... They sell goldfish and other community small fishes on your door...

I make four hour trips with my fish, and I just stick them in a cooler with water from their tank. They've made numerous journeys like this without death, even in winter.

they'll be fine, bichir are tanks..

yea they can even go a couple hours outside of the water but i wouldnt recomend to try that out. thats in worst case senerio.
