Transporting pets and fish and plants across border lines ?

Hi guys
I'm just curious what the regulations are for bringing pets including fish, from the US into Canada, and vice versa, in a car? Also, what about gift plants? (I'm talking about something you might buy at a greenhouse.) For example, if somebody wanted to buy some young Cichlids in Canada, and drive them back?
I cannot seem to find a straight answer (and up-to-date) answer on google.

Well when I come back into Canada, I've never had an issue with fish provided I said they were for my personal use and I didn;t have intant to sell them. Plants might be different. I think there is more stink if you were bringing fish into the country to sell or trade and not being a citizen. My friend brought 5 blue jack dempseys across the border to trade with a guy in the states. The border patrol told him the amount we brought over was ok but not anymore then that.
