So I was thinking of building a trapazoid tank for a corner of my living room to tie two other tanks toghther. I was going to have the front viewing window be 3' wide and 5' high with the back side being 8' wide the overall tank height would be 6' high. This would bring the volume to around 600 gallons. My question is this. How thick should the glass be for a 600 gallon 6' high tank be? I cannot seem to find any caluclators that would help with that height. I do have access to relativly cheap piece of bullet proof glass from a bank that is 3x5 but I am not sure it would be thick enough. When in doubt I know MFK has the answers.

Do you have a diagram? You are talking some seriously thick glass to build a 6' high tank. How big is your budget?

it is pretty much a standing trapazoid. I really have not made a solid drawing yet. I was thinking of a welded frame with plywood inside. I will have to see what level the glass is. I know the bank swapped it out becaouse it would not take multiple direct 50 cal hits.

So I had to change the design a little. It will be 6' tall and 6' across the back. The front viewing panel will be a foot off the ground and be a 3x5 foot piece of glass. I am just wondering how thick I should get the glass.

Thick.

Sorry i cant be much more help... I am hopeless in this "department"

I'm sure you will get responses in the 1.5" to 3" thick range depending on how much of a safety factor you'd like.

if you can find a calculator for a 3' tall tank, then double that and add a 1/2'' for safety and i would think that would work. There was a wall tank on ebay a few months ago that was 12' long and 6' high and the front panel was 1'' tempered.

Huh, there's no emoticon for a 'chime' :(.
