was wondering if it would be fesible to vaccum a pond with a gas powered trash pump with a dewatering bag attached to filter out solids. (leaves, silt, pebbles)

I'm thinking the bag could be placed in the pond and cleaned water would just be returned.

Would this work? I feel like someone should have tried it by now.

I don't see why it wouldn't work though there are a couple issues that may occur.

One, the bag used to collect the debris will probably clog up extremely fast plus the movement of the debris mixed with the pumped water will break down into smaller particles.

Two, you should still have a suction screen on the end of the intake hose to avoid sucking in any fish, if you have any and to avoid any large items that may damage the pump.

I haven't tried this for a pond but did use a similar pump set up to pump water from a creek to water a garden and any fine debris did clog up the sprinkler I was using which required frequent cleaning of the orifices.
