I need to treat my SMB. He has this white eye that is protruding. I don't think it is popeye. I have aquarium salt in for about a week now. 1 T for every 5 gallons in. I think it may have gotten a little better. I have carbon filters and I can't use Melafix because I would have to take them out.

Also, my Ammonia is zero and my nitrites are zero. My nitrates are about 10 any my PH is 6.8.

Is there something cheap that I can use to treat 250 gallons with keep my carbon in? I looked into Marcyn at PetSmart, but one days' tank dosage for me was like 20 bucks.

Firstly, you cannot forever use the carbon you have so if you have to dose any meds especially Melafix (which I will never be a fan of), you still are required to dispose the carbon otherwise every treatment you added, is rendered useless and ineffective as it is practically absorbed by the carbon.

Your fish's eye issue is injury. Stick to salt only and maintain clean water. What test kit do you use?

I use an API freshwater master test kit. I will do a water change tonight as well.

I am continuing to do water changes every few days and my parameters are still 0 amm, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate.

The eye hasn't gotten any better. It looked better for one day and now it is back to the bulging white.

What can I do?

Did you dose salt at all? How much salt was dosed? What antibiotics do you have access to?

I have 1 T per 5 gallons dosed. I have access to Melafix and I suppose I could remove my carbon filters and put them in a bucket of aquarium water with a bubbler while I am treating the tank?

Also, I have a Wal-Mart, Petco, Petsmart, and local fish stores close by to get anything.

looks like its healing, looked like a scrape originally, just keep clean water, it will heal over fine
