i went to a friends private pond, really small, but held spotted bass and gills. i kept one bass, and two bluegill. question: they are in a 90 gallon quarantine tank but what should i treat them with to get rid of parasites? i know they have them because i have collected from this pond before and the poop is stringy. any help would be great.

I would add 1-2 T salt per 5 gallons and nothing more unless you see a problem. Stringy poop isn't always a problem. I see no reason to treat wild caught fish willy nilly. After all tropical fish come from the wild too and they don't treat them.

teleost is right. but i would keep a very close eye on wild caughts. about a month or 2 ago i had a bad infestation of fish lice in my tank from a wild caught

I'm with teleost, too. Don't start bangin the fish with heavy drugs. The fresh wild-caughts are under enough stress as it is. Usually, an increase in salinity and temp is all thats needed to purge intestinal worms. You could also offer them foods containing garlic extract. I use it on my new puffers since almost all of them arrive with gut parasites. The garlic does the trick and no worm "remnants" are seen after about a week.

This is a good point. VERY close visual examination is the best defence against unwanted tank mates. This can be difficult though, I've brought in lernaea (anchor worm) on more than one occasion. I'm more careful with my visual inspections now.

Doc Fishwell's salt and good water quality will help most. If you have to get Jungle's Parasite Clear. I had good luck with that and melafix / pimafix as well

me too.:naughty:

i will try the salt to make sure that they dont carry anything and will probably keep them together and not mix them with other exotics.
