If any of you catch feeders from a pond/river or even store bought, what would you use to make sure there are no internal parasites in the feeders?

Waiting weeks for a MED to treat parasites for feeders would just be a waste of time IMO......

I have a 10 gallon that I house the feeders in for 1 week before feeding treated with meds and then another tank that is ready to go and already treated. Both have good filtration and feed them good flakes while treating.

Bottom line here is what are your options? Why do you intend to use feeders anyway if there are safer alternatives?

My gsp seems to like them. i feed him other things too. like earthworms, store bouht shrimp (which he hasnt liked lately because i alternated back and forth each day and as soon as i ran out of worms he wouldnt take shrimp. but he took some minnows ive had for a month. he only eats the meat and not the head/stomach. thats where i thought the parasite might be so i was somewhat relieved he just ate tails, and not just the fin.

I got him some nightcrawlers now but i need more ocean salt and walmart only ha aquarium salt. GRR! I need to get him a larger tank also =/

But, i must say in the 3 weeks ive had him and cured his ich he does seem more active and exploring more since i got him from wallmart. =/

Keep in mind that you can't be 100% sure that feeder fish won't have internal parasites. For the sake of your fish's health, you should try to wean him.

:( Well, i dont have a car. I dont have alot of money either... i atually ran out of food and had to feed him. He just got over a 4 day starvation period that was caused by inch, but i took care of that.

I made a thread in the disease setion asking what to med my feeders with but i dont know which to use.

To be 100% you need to treat feeders for everything - internal parasites, internal bacterial infections, worms, internal fungal and protozoan infections. If you dont you are playing russian roulette with your fish. Feeders are not a good idea to feed to freshwater fish. It is hardly ever necessary, and the more of them you feed, the more chance there is of transferring a disease or parasite.
