I began this on 6/1/06 and now its 6/30/06. Here is my story:

I have 2 albino oscars at 9 to 10 inches that had developed HITH.
After reading a ton of info on this site and other sites, I decided to
follow some strict procedures.

1st, I keeped the two oscars in a 75 gal tank with a fairly constant temp
of 80 degrees being filtered with a Emperor 400 and a Fluval 304.

2nd, I removed the gravel, its a bare bottom now.

3rd, I changed 20-25% of the water three times a week.

4th, I fed Krill on the weekends and Spirulina dics every Wednesday. The
other days I soaked the Hikari pellets 10-15 minutes in a vitamin drop called
"ADEK" children drops. This formula has vitamin K.

5th, I dissolved 2 grams of Metronidazole in the tank everyday for 14 days, still
changing the water three times a week. Then, I would stop treatment for 7 days
and treat again for 7 days. Total treatment is 3 out of 4 weeks.

The 1st 2 pics were shot 6/1 and the last 2 pics were shot on 6/30.
There were some results. I will continue this for a 2nd month with part II.

:D

looks like its working. I hear carbon is no good with them either. If you use carbon try taking it out and provide more biological filtration if the h i t h is a common occurance for you

Yeah I have taken the carbon out of all of my tanks but have a supply strickly for removing meds. All my tanks are clear clean and healthy. I think my fish are better off w/o the carbon.

sounds like a sound plan .Best of luck with your project.

Incidentally, have you heard about stories how fish badly infected
with hith will heal completely once thrown in a large pond or large daily water changes ?

Good work  You're a good Fish parent.

There is an obviouse improvement.

The metronidazole could be helping, but thats only if the cause of the HITH was related to Heximita. If there was no Heximita present, then most likely the major cause was inadequate nutrition. That is normally the cause. Along with poor water conditions.

You can try feeding even more different foods than you are now. Its not just the vitamins that play a part, but the variety of the diet.

Have fun with it ;) Feed them krill, pellets, but also insects, worms, shrimp, beefheart, even shelled peas are great and aid in digestion.

Good job and keep up the good work.

My oscar had HITH BAD! I just upped the water changes and had him in a large tank with no carbon and its 98% gone now. (it took longer than your current project though)

Keep up the good work and keep us posted!

i would lose the children drops though

and use a vitachem suppliment instead. It really is good stuff. Im not sure vitamin k Helps HITH disease but i know Vitamin C play a big part in recovery and healing.
