I read on here that in order to treat ich you need to remove the carbon from your filters first. I am going to use quick cure.

I have filter cartridges that have carbon already inside them. They are the ones that come with the emperor 400 filters. I went and bought just some plain filter media without carbon.

Can I go ahead and swap them out right away? Will that throw off my water paramters?

Tank is 55g with 2 EMP 400 filters. 1 green severum (4") and 1 green terror (3").

Don't use meds... Just bump the temp up to 88, add salt, and lots of aeration. Do more water changes than usual to keep pristine water, and add salt with each water change the amount you took out. I'd say do about 25% water changes every other days. And most will agree that carbon is fairly worthless. Don't use it. It will end up leaching the stuff it takes up back into the tank.

If the carbon is older than a month, then I would say you can add meds with the cartridges in the filter. The carbon is probably already used up.
