ok i hear about putting sat in your tank to treat it all the time. i know not all people have hydrometers or refracomiter but for us that do what sg. can the water be put at and still be safe for freshwater fish? and is there a difference between sea salt for a reef tank and aquarium salt other then crystal size if so can i yous sea salt ? i have like 30 pounds laying around of reef crystals.

very true i dident think of that the ph of a reef if good a 8 to 8.4 were a fw tank should be at 7 -7.4 . thank you any idea about the sg.

bump please i got a pb that refuses to eat and has a body infection i added aquarium salt in the tank but have done 2 water changes since and dident have any salt to replace what i put in i dont want him to die nor the 3 cat fish that are in the tank as well

yes this is for one of my freshwater tanks but i have salt water as will and thank you very much

ok well 4 days and salt not working it is only gitting worse aros not eating one of my cats could care less about food and know every fish in the tank has visible signs of it. can i yous rid ick with the drift wood in the tank or should i take it out. or is there something better to yous on this tank it is 220g with 2 cfs500 canister filters and a fluvel 104 converted to a media filter , 2 korela 3 power heads and 2 9w uv sterilizer (lights are off because trying to build bio filter up). there is also 2 tetra 40-60 air pumps with wood air blocks pumping air in this tank. please help i dont want to loose any of my fish

Have you raised the temperature, salt alone isn't very effective. You need to raise it to 86 minimum and if the fish can handle it go to 90. Ich can't reproduce and function at those temps and will die. Always continue treatment for three days after all signs are gone. Usually 7-14 days. It's extremely effective and is less stressful for the fish than adding medication
