OK so I recently got back into the hobby with my new 180 gallon tank with mainly SA and CA cichlids. The tanks been running for about two months now and I recently saw some things that scare me. First off my jack Dempsey did this thing were he shook around and flashed ("scratched himself" on the substrate.") The first time he just flashed the second he shook around then did it. He hardly does it, I've only seen him do it twice both today. Also my new juvenile pearsei cichlid I just got and introduced to my tank a few days ago(Monday night so 2 days exactly) "scratched himself" on a rock in the tank. I'm thinking maybe these are the early signs of inch in my tank. I have spent a lot of money on livestock for this tank and really like my current stock and am not willing to risk inch killing off my fish. So as a precaution I raised the temp to 86 degrees beacause I know hear kills ich (I'm not even sure if I have it but I'd rather be safe than sorry) I'm not sure if I should add salt beacause I have a common pleco and a featherfin cat. So do you think I am experiencing the early stages of inch(I don't see any white spots "yet".) If so what else should I do to kill it before it even infects my fish??? Also if you think it's not inch and possibly something else please chime in. Also my fish are doing great and eating well and my water prams are good ammonia is about .10-.15 ppm(I have one of those cheap dip strip test kits and it's somewhere between 0 and .25 ppm. Nitrate is around 10 pmm and nitrite is 0 ppm. These are the levels after a water change (I did a 40-50 percent WC today).

Oh and sorry about the typo in the title, and the typos in the main post, autocorrect lol. if your a mod and your reading this please change the title it to ich instead of inch lol.

I would add some salt and keep your temp at that. I usually add the salt and raise temp when I see the white spots but I don't see why not add it before as a precaution

But will the salt hurt my fearherfin cat and common pleco? I heard salt isn't good for catfish.

Yep.
Dont go chemical crazy. Sounds like normal stuff. Water changes of course. Best of luck to you.

I have African cichlids. No Ich, but I did try and treat for it.
My fish itch occasionally, but it takes a few tries to get it scratched just right. I have never had white spot ich. To tell just how itchy it is.

The problem with keeping a tanks temp above 82'F for extended periods, is that certain bacterial diseases thrive and become more virulent at tempo above 82'F, one being columnaris (duck lips). And although the Ick protozoan is fairly simple and easy pathogen (and disease) to treat with heat, and salt.
Columaris is not, and has a very high fatality rate in its acute form.

I've had a bad case of columnaris before a few years back and it was terrible my fish were covered in a white cotteny slime but I saved all my fish somehow. I definitely don't want that again.
