Hey guys,
Went to the LFS the other day.
Couldn't pass on a couple of lil angel fish, I'm sure we've all been there.

Put them in a 15 litre quarantine tank, raised the temp up to 29 Celsius and added some aquarium salts.
I plan on keeping them there for about 3-4 weeks before going in with some parrots (never kept these two types together)

Question:

I want to avoid HITH or other diseases.
Mostly precautionary.

Does HITD spread to fry?
And if so, wanting to protect the parrot collection, what would you do to best prepare them for the display tank?

Thanks in advance.

J.

When I quarantine, I usually add a little water to the quarantine tank daily, from the tank the fish will be going into.
In that way any bacteria the original fish have built up a tolerance for, or are somewhat immune to will be added at non-lethal (hopefully) doses.
Quarantine is not just about keeping new fish diseases away.
Most HITH can be controlled with frequent regular water changes, and providing non-stress situations for the fish medication is a last resort.
If the angels are very much smaller than the parrots (?) the parrots may harass them mecilously to death(or not, one never knows) especially if its a small tank, and the parrots see it as their entire territory.
So once you add them, watch carefully for an extended period just to be safe.

Thanks for the tip
I'll add some water every day.
The parrots are actually babies aswell, still spotty, coin size.
I've heard things from this shop about HITH and also noticed some rather sick fish in other tanks. So I want to be 110% sure that it's not going to enter my tank even though these babies look so healthy and new.
Do you know if HITD can continue into their fry through genetics? Or do all fish have a dormant HITD afflictions?

You can probably read the sticky on HITH, but my feeling is it is ubiquitous like the cold virus in humans. The bacteria are always there, and normally remain benign, except when some stress producer allows the fishes immune system to be slightly compromised. I had vieja breidhori develop lymph after being shipped, but within a week it was gone, by doing daily 40% water changes on their tank, and vacuuming up al detritus
There are others like the viral condition lymphosistus that are always there but only manifest if water changes are too few, if temp is too high, or too low, or if fish are in water conditions or parameters they have not evolved to be in.
I was never able to lkeep certain rare wild type angels or Uaru because the conductivity of my water was too high . There are plenty of scenarios, one just needs to get educated in the needs of the particular type fish kept.
Most bread and butter /common aquarium strains are hardy unless things get out of wack.
