Can i treat with Melafix and fluke treatments at the same time? Anything i need to be careful off, do i need to halve the doses since theres 2 kinds?

Also, how do i treat internal parasites?
And does it matter if i treat for internal if it doesnt have any, just want to be on the safe side since the fish is wild caught.

Cheers

1. Why would you treat with Melafix? Melafix is unnecessary in many cases. Clean water is often the best treatment for minor injuries. Melafix is not always a necessity.

As for flukes, could you please provide details what made you suspect flukes are present? Only microscopes can detect flukes if you are doing skin and gill scrapes.

2. It depends which internal parasite we are dealing with. Nematodes are more resistant to most deworming agents than cestodes and trematodes. The cestodes may be eliminated by praziquantel if the fish ingests it where it is a much more effective and direct attack. Praziquantel is not cheap however so take note of that. It is available either as Prazipro or Droncit.

Camallanus worms may need fenbendazole, levamisole hydrochloride or piperazine. Metronidazole might destroy tapeworms especially if ingested. We still have a choice of Jungle Antiparasite to cover a wide range of internal parasites. Nematodes are your biggest concern though especially as they may potentially encyst themselves rendering most meds ineffective.

Quarantine your fish for 3-4 weeks. Be patient with the whole process unless you wish to risk your other stocks with the issues that may not be reversed later on. Note that many parasites can pave way for secondary infections much more sinister than the parasites themselves.

They're living worm things, getting up to about 5mm in length, atatched to the fishes external, occuring anywhere outside the body (what ive always called "flukes"). Melafix is ment to be good for new and stressed fish? This guy was freshly wild caught (yesterday, to be exact.), i dont know what disease it could have etc so i figured a multi thing would be alright to get it on its "feet" so to speak. The fish from the river here often get these red sores on their bodies that spread, eventually they seem to die from it. Doesnt affect the carp, just natives. Doesnt seem to be contagious either. Water is crystal and highly oxygenated.

Can you post photos of the parasites? These are not flukes. Flukes can only be seen clearly under a microscope.
