Hi all, came back from a week vacation and noticed that one of my clown loaches had ich. I have read that increasing the temperature to 86+ degrees and adding salt will help kill the ich.

My tank currently has:
1 gold severum
6 black skirt tetras
5 clown loaches
1 bristlenose pleco
1 rubber lip pleco

Can these fish handle salt and the high temperatures? From what I have found most of them don't like anything above 80. I tested the water and everything was normal, but I did a large water change anyways.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

How slowly should I raise the temp is it over a couple days or a few hours ? Will the fish I have be able to survive the high temps?

The odds of them surviving the elevated temps are much higher than the odds of them surviving a full blown ich outbreak. Unfortunately it's a gamble you will have to take. They should be fine. Elevate those temps to 86 and IME, keeping the temps at 86 for a full week after all signs of Ich has disappeared is best. I typically also add 2 Tablespoons of salt per 5 gallons of water. I've done this with loaches and it's worked well (no losses with this method). Vacuuming gravel while doing daily water changes is also a good idea.

A good outcome starts with early treatment, so get those temps raised ASAP. The time it takes your heaters to raise the temp is gradual enough. Don't sweat that.

Agreed and I dose the same with salt.

Raised the temperature and added salt when I had ich. It worked really well and I was shocked to see how much salt my fish could actually handle.

I raised the temperature to about 85-87 and added some salt. So far all the fish seem fine. I am getting a lot more algae now though.
