I just noticed a fish lice/argulus last night. I removed it and killed it but there may be egss in the tank.

I want to treat the whole tank with Jungle Anchors away (contains dimillin)

I have a Tropical and Cuban gars, is this safe for Gars ?

Thanks

stan

meds tend to be a no no with gar. try salt and a temp of about 86

Dimilin is a much safer treatment than trichlorfon which is one of the few treatments that is lethal to fish lice aside from coumaphos, an extremely powerful pesticide. Salt will not kill the fish lice. Fish lice are far more resistant to salt than most parasites. They have a shell made of keratin that protects them from most chemicals however unfortunately for them, dimilin can inhibit their shell developments thus when they shed their shells, the dimilin quickly destroys the lice as it penetrates their soft body. Dimilin is safe if administered correctly. What you should do is follow the instructions prescribed on the bottle carefully. Treatment may take 3-4 weeks due to fish lice's very long life cycle process.

use Jungle Parasite Clear, these are white tablets that fizz in the water. the active ingredient is praziquantel. works well for fish lice on bichirs, gars, etc. and i have used it many times. may require 1-3 treatments depending on infestation. good luck--

Thanks to all that responded.

I saw 1 Lice. I removed it and being on a safe side, i want to make sure that all the eggs (if there's any) will be gone as well.

I didn't think Prazi removes lice...I wasn;t going to try it because I want to make sure that I treat with what known to work on Lice rather than general parasite treatment.

From what I have red, Dimilin kills lice dead on the spot

do what you want to do...i've used it on fish lice, anchor worms, and plenty of other stuff with 100% success on gars over the span of several years. i'm not saying there are not other treatments, i just know that one i recommended works well. good luck--

x2, that's what I used the one time I had a lice outbreak.
