I've always wanted to build a low tech planted tank with entirely just epiphytic plants such as anubias, java fern, mosses, and bolbitis if I could ever get my hands on some as I'd think it"d look awesome if done correctly. Maybe just a few crypts so the ground doesn't look too bare.
However I've also been into vivariums and have been looking into making more high tech ones than I've previously made in the past. Especially with epiphytes growing on the background. The most popular material I've seen recently for this has been tree fern panels. I know they are rot resistant and are often used with drip walls so that they are constantly having water flow down them.
This got me thinking and I've been wondering if you could use it for a similar purpose underwater and grow aquatic epiphytes on them like you would bromeliads and orchids in a vivarium or would underwater be to much moisture and the panel would just break down?
If so has anyone used it before with success? If not does anyone know a similar material that could be used in its place?
