Trending Post Logic

Edit: I just realized how impossible this thread is to understand.


This sound reasonable?

uch = user comments per hour
auch = average user comments per hour
PA = post age in hours


Post1 = ((UCH1 / AUCH1) / PA )
Post2 = ((UCH2 / AUCH2) / PA )
Post3 = ((UCH3 / AUCH3) / PA )

if Post1 > ((post1 + post2 + post3)/3)*1.10


if a thread has no comments it'll have a "trending factor" of zero,
As threads get older and older they will need exponential new post, or to beable to hold a LARGE section of posts made globally.

If a topic is really a trend, everyone should be posting there ANYWAYs right?

The algorithm seems to be fine. Just get it in, get the website up and running and then worry about tweaking it once you have paying customers

That was the biggest/hardest lesson I learned with my startups.
